How To Say The Rosary

The word Rosary comes from the Latin ”  Rosario” meaning a wreath for chaplet of roses which was used to denote a collection of sayings and prayers, Prior to the Christian era noted cords and strings of stones had been used to keep track of repeated prayers and penitential acts. Among the early hermits, anchorites and monks a devotion to our Lady was prevalent Legend has it the Saint lldephones’

and later St. Dominic received directions concerning the recitation of the Rosary from Mary herself. The recitation of Hail Mary’s to be counted by the aid of Pate Rosters was common in the 12th century. Gradually to the prayers of praise, the Hail Mary, a second part, a prayer of petition the “Holy Mary”was added in varying forms. The prayer as we have today was given approved from the Roman Breviary of 1568.

The word Rosary meansCrown of Roses. Many great popes, saints, and Christian leaders have exhorted us to pray the rosary. It’s a powerful prayer, they say, one that can change your life, strengthen the family, bring peace to the world, convert entire nations, and win the salvation of souls.

According to those particular aspects of our Lady’s life on which we meditate. In this way the full fifteen decades of the Rosary have their own particular points for meditation and plays out the life of Jesus.

The Joyful mysteries direct our souls towards neighbor, the Sorrowful to our love of self and the

Glorious mysteries lead us to a greater love of God thus the Rosary is a school of Perfect Love following the Great Commandment of love of God and neighbor.

If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I do assure you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory.Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil as sorcerers do who practice black magic, and even if you are a heretic as obstinate as a devil, sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and save your soul, if and mark well what I say if you say the Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for your sins. St. Louis Marie de Montfort

What the saints have said about the Rosary and the Hail Mary . . .“If you persevere in reciting the Rosary, this will be a most probable sign of your eternal salvation.”

Assigned to each fifteen decades of the Rosary is a particular mystery on which we meditate during the recitation. This meditation on the mysteries is said to be the very essence of the Rosary. The mysteries are grouped according to three definite categories:

And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to grow sorrowful and to be sad. Then saith to them: My soul is sorrowful even unto death. Stay you here and watch with me. And going a little further, he fell upon his face, praying, and saying: My Father, if it be possible, let this Chalice pass from me. Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh to his disciples, and findeth them asleep, and he saith to Peter: What ? Could you not watch one hour with me ? (St. Matt.26: 36,37,38,39,40)

The Scourging At The Pillar – Purity

Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then ? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice. Pilate saith to him: What is truth ? And when he said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith To them: I find no cause in him. But you have a custom That I should release one unto you at the pasch: Will you, therefore, that I release unto you the king of the Jews ? Then cried they all again, saying not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. Then therefore Pilate Took Jesus, and scourged him.       (St. John 18: 37-40)

And bowing the knee before him, they mocked him,, saying: Hail, king of the Jews. And spitting upon him, they took the reed, and struck his head. And after they mocked him, they took off the cloak from him, and put on him his own garments, and led him away to crucify him.

And looking, they saw the stone rolled back. For it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side clothed with a white robe: and they were astonished. Who saith to them: Be not frightened; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified; he is risen, he is not here, behold the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you in Galilee; there you shall see him, as he told you. And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments. Who also said: Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, as you have seen him going to heaven. ( Acts 1: 8-11)

The Fourth Glorious Mystery

The AssumptionEternal Happiness

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin into heaven is the mystery of purity. The Immaculate Conception prepared for the Annunciation by providing spiritual incorruptibility, the Annunciation led to the Nativity, and the Assumption followed as a gracious consequence because it was not fitting that the body that bore the body of Jesus Christ should ever be violated by any form of corruption. The Fifth Glorious Mystery The Coronation BVM

The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin as Queen of Heaven came as a logical climax to her career as the mother of the Redeemer. The purpose of the redemption of mankind a second opportunity to spend eternity in heaven. Adam has squandered the first opportunity, and he had lost it for the whole human race. After the redemption through Jesus Christ each human being would be personally and sole responsible whether or not he would swell in heaven. It is fitting that the woman who brought the Redeemer into this world should be the hostess, as it were, to welcome all those good noble souls that her Son has enables to find their way into heaven.    (Catholic Devotions)

The Perfect Act of Contrition

O my God! I am heartily sorry
For having offended Thee and
I detest all my sins, because
I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell;
But most of all because I have offended Thee, My God,

Who art allgood and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace,
To confess my sins, to do penance,
And to amend my life.
